Radiological safety, the technical focus of Health Physics, is the practice of protecting mankind and the environment from the potentially harmful effects of ionizing radiation. Although radioactivity and ionizing radiation have always been present from natural sources, radiation safety efforts have only evolved over the past century following the scientific discoveries of radiation and radioactive materials. The primary tenet of radiation safety is to protect against unnecessary or excessive radiation exposures, while taking advantage of the positive contributions radiation can provide to the well-being of humans. A system of radiological protection, developed through international collaboration and consensus, serves as the basis for radiation protection regulations in the United States for occupational and environmental exposures.

Dade Moeller & Associates employees have developed and implemented radiation protection programs and provided radiological support, including regulatory compliance evaluations, for government agencies, their contractors, and commercial businesses. Our expert personnel have extensive capabilities in Health Physics; Nuclear Safety; Radiation Protection and Program Support; Dosimetry, Surveillance, and Monitoring; and Computer Model Development and Application. In addition, notable staff members are active in national and international radiological protection activities, and are recognized as among the top practitioners in their field.

10 CFR 835 — DOE Occupational Radiation Protection — Are You Prepared?

This recently-revised rule requires contractors to:
blank(1) revise their radiation protection programs by January 4, 2008,
blincluding a plan for compliance with the revised rule, and
blank(2) implement the plan and achieve full compliance with the revised rule by July 9, 2010.

The revision triggers changes that may significantly impact site operations. Contact us to find out how the revised rule might impact your site and how our experienced professionals can help you meet the deadlines successfully and cost-effectively. Learn More

Health Physics

Dade Moeller & Associates employs over 30 Certified Health Physicists who provide technical support to radiological protection programs. We have also prepared environmental risk assessment and pathway analyses, as well as support for external and internal dosimetry measurements and calculations

Nuclear Safety

Nuclear Safety is an important consideration for all types of nuclear facilities. We have experience in conducting, reviewing, and evaluating nuclear safety assessments, and serving as subject matter experts in the areas of health physics and risk assessment, in compliance with federal regulations.

Radiation Protection and Program Support

Radiation protection programs, including the definitions of basic operational requirements and procedures, are required for nuclear facilities. Dade Moeller & Associates provides highly experienced personnel who have received recognition from numerous clients praising the contribution and support provided to their radiological protection programs.

Dosimetry, Surveillance, and Monitoring

Protecting workers and the environment from exposure to radiation often requires monitoring or verification. Dade Moeller & Associates has a history of success and a high degree of customer satisfaction in designing radiation dosimetry programs, workplace monitoring, site characterization surveys, site remediation programs, and final release surveys. In addition, we can supply film, TLD or colorimetric dosimeters for routine or emergency monitoring. Dade Moeller & Associates is an authorized distributor of dosimeters from Global Dosimetry Solutions and RADeCO.

Computer Model Development and Application

Our staff members have both created and applied complex models to radiological dose and risk estimates. Computer model development and application is a fundamental feature of nuclear safety and radiological risk assessments, and we have applied models to evaluate doses and risks for many situations, including facility siting and design, recycling, dose reconstruction, and environmental impact.

Radiological support may require other specialized services which Dade Moeller & Associates can provide.
