Radioactive Sealed Source Leak Testing

Dade Moeller’s Radio-Analytical Laboratory provides Leak Test Kits at no charge to clients for the performance of required Radioactive Sealed Source Leak Testing. Radioactive Sealed Source Leak Tests should be conducted at the frequency specified in the source’s respective Sealed Source Device (SSD) Registration Certificate. Not all sealed sources are alike. Contact the source manufacturer, owner’s manual, SSD Registration Certificate, or distributor for detailed information on how to collect a sample from your source or device. Please test only one (1) source per Leak Test Kit.

Dade Moeller’s staff understands the importance of rapid turnaround of results that are required to manage a radiation safety program. Leak Test Sample Analysis is generally begun the same day the samples arrive with an average turnaround time of one (1) week. Upon completion, the Laboratory will provide you with a Certificate of Leak Test which certifies that the radioactive sealed source was tested for leakage and the results of the analysis.

Expedited sample analysis can be arranged by contacting the Laboratory.
All elevated results will be immediately reported via email or phone. Reports are available in Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) by email upon request. All hard-copies of reports will be mailed via U.S. Postal Service with additional Leak Test Kits for future testing.

Radioactive Sealed Source Leak Test Kit

Each kit contains the following and is intended for use with one source:

• Generalized instruction for performing a leak test on sealed sources
• Instructions on how to get your Leak Test Kit analyzed
• Leak Test Sample Information Sheet
• Method of Payment
• Two (2) Pre-labeled Sample Bag
• Two (2) Cotton Swabs One (1) RadiacWash Towelette
• One (1) Pre-Addressed Envelope

 

To send Leak Test Samples for analysis, please follow the instructions below:
	Please complete the Leak Test Sample Information Sheet contained in each kit. Ensure the following information is included to avoid delays: Serial Number of Source, Radionuclide, Source Activity, Date of Test, Name of Individual who Performed the Leak Test, Device Serial Number (not necessary on sealed sources not installed in a device).
Please complete our Method of Payment Form (included in Leak Test Kit). The Laboratory accepts payment by purchase order and credit cards.
