D&D Support for Department of Energy (DOE) Sites

scrubberDade Moeller specializes in decommissioning at DOE sites. As one example, we provided key radiological support to the planning of the demolition of a plutonium incineration facility. We supported development of the radiological control plan, atmospheric dispersion modeling, air monitoring equipment selection and evaluation, and facility characterization plan.

MARSSIM

Using Multi-Agency Radiation Survey and Site Investigation Manual (MARSSIM) guidance, we conduct a Historical Site Assessment (HSA) to identify potential radiological contaminants. Then we develop a Survey Plan describing the scanning, sampling, and analytical approach of the survey, creating data quality objectives, setting derived concentration guideline levels, identifying survey units and classifications for impacted areas, and determining the number of sample and/or measurement locations required in each survey unit.  Dade Moeller & Associates then conducts the final site survey and analyzes the results following the Survey Plan.  If necessary, the buildings and equipment will be decontaminated.

Environmental Restoration

Load Out We have the experience to support all phases of D&D. For several clients, we have defined authorized limits under DOE Order 5400.5 for unrestricted release of property following decommissioning. We provided 7 continuous years of technical and project assistance to a prime contractor for cleanup and environmental restoration activities at a DOE site. We have also negotiated interagency agreements between DOE, EPA, and states.
